Disabled Parking Permits

A Florida Parking Permit is issued to any individual who is certified as legally blind or has disabilities that limit the ability to walk. The placard must hang on the rear view mirror when a vehicle is parked in a space designated for disabled persons. This permit is transferable to any vehicle transporting the disabled person.

Four-year permit – the form HSMV 83039 must be signed by the applicant and by his or her physician, podiatric physician, optometrist, advanced registered nurse practitioner, or physician assistant. There is no fee for the first permit, and if an additional parking permit is needed for a “frequent traveler,” that permit is also issued at no fee. No more than two permits may be issued to a disabled person. This permit expires on your birth date. (Note: With form HSMV 83007 a Florida resident may obtain a Wheelchair Plate.)

Temporary permit – Issued for up to six months from the date of issuance, and may be extended as needed with a new certification. Form HSMV 83039 must be signed by both the applicant and physician or other qualified authority as listed above. The cost is $15.00, regardless of how many days the permit is issued. Persons who have been issued Temporary Parking Permits are not eligible to receive an additional placard.
